August in New England if you love to RV as much as we do it is time to get on the road again.
Our fun took us over five hundred mile through three states Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and back to Cape Cod Mass. to join 44 other families @ Scusset State Beach before heading home today. Our 2003 Coachmen class A performed well the I love my Ford V10.

We enjoyed the Vermont Samboree, visited with family during the weekend, wandered back across RTE 101 from 93 in New Hampshire to pick up RTE 95 in Maine and north to Kennebunk lobster & steamed clams were the order of business. So grab the keys do not let the summer slip away fuel, food, fun , and family for under $100.00 dollars a day.

Happy New Year!

Well it has been a week to remember winter snow blanketed the east coast. But as all good North East Storms must it has finally passed buy. Three days of cleanup prompted the need for a drive to break the cabin fever. Departing home and wandering thought the country side to Plymouth Mass. a stop on the water front @ Woods Seafood for fish and chips. Probably the most perfect pace to enjoy seafood in a very casual atmosphere. Back to the jeep and north along Rte. 3 to Rte. 14 were we pick up 139 out to Brant Rock and a visit to out spring and fall camping location the camp sights were coated with rock and sand from the strong waves during the storm. As we drove past the Fairview Inn one home owner was busy using a snow shovel to remove the rocks and sand from the side walk and street around the house.

Our snow birds are settling into campgrounds in warmer places, the smell of snow is in the air as New England gets ready for our long winter nights.

The RV is winterized and parked waiting for spring .

The camp fire has moved into the old wood stove with the big cast iron pot steaming away adding

the sweet smell of Cinnamon and spice to the fragrance of the pine needles in the air. The quiet of the moment broken only by the rumble of the train as it makes its way around the tree. We wish every one the best holiday ever.

Yes the blog does fall back along with the clocks at this time of the year. The RV has been winterized and parked for a short rest the joy of still working full time. We had a great turn out at the brunch 92 members pulled in and enjoyed a great day at Holiday Inn Mansfield Mass. we highly recommend this event if your in New England at any time. Mass Good Sam members wish every one a great Holiday Season.

Fall In New England

We have reached September on the New England Coast temperature have dropped, days are getting shorter but there is much to do and see every day. So break out the jackets and travel guides and start exploring. The country side is covered with fairs find some and try it out. Our chapter will have it's twentieth Surf & Turf gathering this week in Plymouth Mass.

Summer Passing Much Too Fast

It is well into August and the blog is falling behind, trips to the beach ten days in Bar Harbor as you can see we take full advantage of the summer in New England. Hope every one is keeping cool and enjoying as much as we are. The warm summer offered us the best weather on the coast of Maine I can ever remember having. We stayed @ Timberland RV Camp Ground on Rt3 great place for touring Bar Harbor. Be sure and check it out if your plans take you to the Mid Coast. This week brings us back to the Cape Cod and a weekend @ the state park with 50 other Good Sam family's.

Spring Weekend In New England

Oak Haven Campground in Wales Ma. hosted our June camp out with 16 family's gathering to enjoy a quiet weekend after the Samboree events. Roxanne & Fred did an out standing job again as our wagon masters with thanks to the other members seen helping all weekend. A few sprinkles kept the dust under control while Barbra and Bill and Fred kept the campfire burning most of the evening. Roxanne out did her self with brownies & ice cream for all on Saturday afternoon, Sugar free and Gluten free selections helped allow every one to enjoy the event. We even heard there was a trip to do some strawberry picking on Saturday. The weekend was quiet and laid back and enjoyed by all.

Another Great Samboree

Well it is a wrap we just com pleated another great Good Sam Samboree. Except for some wind mid week a total of 327 RV's made there way to Franklin County Fair Grounds in Greenfield for the Mass Samboree. The state officers and chapters did an outstanding job again. New England

Well new England holds true to the statement "If you do not like the weather wait a it will change".

Two weeks ago it was 80+ but our weekend on the water front hit a high of 45 right up till check out time on Sunday. Eighteen family's driven by cabin fever took our places on the water front in Marshfield for Friday and Saturday. Even the cold wind could not dampen our spirit. The coffee was hot the pastry was fresh and every one cheeks had a shinny wind burn cherry red color.

At least the local business did well as every one opted to do some shopping on Saturday an the gas grills were quickly replaced with a trip to the restaurants. I know of two groups that made there way to the Bridgwaye on Ferry Street came back well pleased with there meals, rumor has it Haddad's on ocean street did well with the Saturday night crowed as well.

What more could we ask for than sunshine here in the north east. It is a bright Easter Sunday our best wishes to all. Looking for Spring

Well every one had enough winter yet? All the snow birds seem to be reporting cooler than normal weather from every location messages from Texas, Florida, California, and the Carolina's all waiting for a break. Well it is March madness every wear. One encouraging fact is the reservations have begun to arrive for the Mass Samboree in Greenfield. To be held at the Franklin County Fair Grounds May 28, 29, 30, 31, 2010 with early parking starting on May 25.

The ladies are ready to handle your registration and enter your food orders so every thing will be ready when you arrive in Greenfield. Happy 2010 to all, we kicked of the new year watching the Tournament of Roses from sunny CA. Very pleased to see the new float shown here recognizing the Tuskegee Airmen. On of the many floats winding down the streets in Pasadena. One of the airmen is a regular at the Mass Samboree and we hope to see him again in May.

The new England weather continues to keep us busy with the snow shovels. But this does not slow down the RV excitement here in the North East calls have already begun coming in for the Mass Samboree May 2010, Massgoodsam.com for more information.

Well the camping gives way to the Holiday preparation's with the RV winterized and tucked into the back of the driveway. Even with the weather holding on the warm side our local radio stations have begun to fill the air ways with Christmas Music. Local merchants prepare for Black Friday as Thanksgiving day is smothered in the rush. Keep in Mind the great places to visit here in Southeastern Mass, the trains will be rolling at Eadaville Rail road in South Caver this week, the magic of the Enchanted Village has reopened at its new location in Jordan's Furniture in Avon just of Rte 24, and the Newport Mansion celebrate Christmas beginning Nov. 20 step back in time entering the new gates at the Breakers.

Mass Hidden Treasure

October quickly ticking away brings signs of the Fox's starting there snow bird travels but before they all get away comes our favorite fun spot. The Holiday Inn Mansfield Mass. on a bright Sunday morning was the meeting place for 82 members to gather and enjoy the brunch offered by Holiday Inn every Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM. Thanks to Rob Perkins and a great staff the function room was set to accommodate the den in order to enjoy our last formal get together of the 2009 season. The best expression was from one member saying he never saw so many food selections for breakfast in one place. Every thing from smoked salmon, to shrimp and all the standard breakfast items. The longest line formed at the omelet table all cooked to order with a great selection of items to add. In what seemed to be a very short time all the guest plates were back at there tables and the hush settled over the group as every one was busy enjoying. After every one had there fill we took a short break to address the business of the day to thank all the member who volunteered run this seasons events, the group selected the charities which would be sent our donations, Special Olympics, Cancer research and local food Pantry will each share in this years bounty. The Santa swap closed out the day as participating members collected wrapped gifts to save and open at Christmas.

Well can you believe October and snow in the forecast, just what one would expect here in New England. After an enjoyable weekend in Marshfield, we opted to follow the more indoor path and packed an over night bag for a week night in Connecticut @ Fox Woods. Not bad plan reservations at Two Trees just across the parking lot from the casino. Nice room, good dinning, indoor pool door to door shuttle no need to hook up or tow the Jeep for less that the price of a camp ground sixty six dollars if memory is correct. The most shocking thing was the lack of crowds of people @ the casino, if you think the economy does not effect them guess again. But it did allow us a much wider selection of penny games to gamble the day away. No big winning but lots of fun playing Deal or NO Deal but I think the banker was saving the cash for some one else. All in all a fun week night off and a break for the RV. Home on Friday now that was a switch and a chance to catch the grandson playing soccer on Saturday, followed by granddaughters' birthday on Sunday looks like we can use a rest this week. Mother nature did unfold a good double northeaster for the weekend of the 17, wind, rain, snow, and thunder yes a true new England event. I great time to relax and catch up on a good movie or two. It is my understanding some of our folowers will hit the road to start there snow bird trips to warmer places this week safe travel to were every you go.

Summer Extentions

October opens to one of our best camping locations on the Beach in the Brant Rock section of Marshfield, Mass. A small stretch of water front parked with an unobstructed view of the morning sunrise. Twelve families gathered to enjoy the weekend of relaxing and watching the fishing and pleasure boats run in and out of Green Harbor, Plymouth, and Boston all with in sight of a good pair of field glasses. The cool clear nights and full harvest moon expanded the pleasure of coast watching long into the evening. Our weekend was disrupted by several hours of rain on Saturday how ever every ones sprite rebounded for a short coffee social during the late afternoon. Sunday promised to be a better day which it always does on the day we have to travel home again. Back to work and planning the next adventure.

New England, sunshine, great people and a perfect weekend all part of the Good Sam chapter benefits. Thirty eight families wandered along the highways and by ways to Pine Wood Lodge in Plymouth MA. for the annual Surf & Turf event. Our chapter again enjoyed the pleasure of the gently breeze blowing through the pines, the crackle of the camp fire as the wagon masters and there help prepared a hot dog and chowder luncheon, an after noon of entertainment and a dinner of steak, lobster, baked potato's, corn on the Cobb and salad. Our chapter has never been known to go hungry at this event. Pine wood located just west of historic Plymouth off the old Rte. 44 is truly a great spot for enjoying southeastern new England. This is always a popular event and we get to see many of the associate campers who come out and enjoy a good time with old friends. Always great to see Manny and Lorraine Faria, and Betty Enos, the Paioni aunt's all the grand kids and a real treat to see the Dennehy's back on the camping list. Thanks to all the helpers who made this a great event.

Post Labor Day

Well summer gives way to fall with the opening of schools cooling of the over night highs. But this could not prevent the 4 the annual Labor Day weekend rally at Scusset Beach. Thanks to the work of Paul the 4 groups enjoyed a diamond weekend. The weather was the best of the season 66 families entered the field and settled in for the weekend. Friday was exciting as some traveler's reunited after a year of travel. Saturday dawned bright and sunny every one busy setting up and starting the food prep for the afternoon pot luck. @ 1 pm it looked like a small ant hill as the many dishes made there way across the field to the tent. the line formed quickly for the members to choose the many items available. Scallops wrapped in bacon, Jan's signature French Fries, hot dogs, chicken, salads of every description. only to mention a few. Saturday evening opened up into a rare campfire @ the beach until the wind produced a conflict and brought the tent down. Sunday was off to a great windy start as we departed envious of the people staying till Monday but some one has to work.

Fall in New England

A week later and we watch another storm wind it's way off the coast Danny is more fizzle and drizzle than expected. Lots of rain very little wind at least here on the south shore. Most of the weekend has been following the services for the late Ted Kennedy an impressive tribute to the man and his accomplishments. The number of people along the streets and highways from Cape Cod to Dorchester and on into the city was amazing. As we enter the last days of August hope you enjoy the up coming Labor Day weekend with family and friends.

We have picked up the lawn chairs folded the awning and will watch the weather as hurricane Bill winds it way up the coast.

It will be a hot spot along the coast for the surfers and storm watchers if your out to walk the beaches keep a safe watchfull eye.

Scusset Weekend

Once again Scusset Beach State Park produces a perfect weekend resort for 2 Good Sam chapters totaling 52 RV'S. Some rain on Thursday opened the way for a perfect Friday, Saturday, Sunday beach days. One visiting family even had the opportunity to use one of the 3 beach wheel chairs a great option for the young lady who had been beach blanket bound all summer. Her dad pushed her off across the sand and into cape cod bay. The dip in the bay was well worth the trip on an 80 degree day. I am sure you have seen many adds encouraging you to volunteer and assist our state parks trust me the smile on this young ladies face was more rewarding than any one could imagine. August already

Well reality sets in and August has arrived in New England. Having returned to work after the Maine trip we book the local Boston KOA in Middleboro for a rest full weekend close to home. The weather has been great sunny days and cool nights. As a full time resident in Mass. the arrival of August marks the mid point of our short summer RV season so we hope all our friends will get out and enjoy the weekends we have left. Remember the FMCA rally in Vermont next weekend. Please be sure and look for the Geeks On Tour and say hello. They are a great source of information and have helped us get this blog working be sure and join us as followers.

Our vacation week draws to a close, we finished with a great dinning experience at the Arundel Wharf Restaurant in Kennebunkport. A half moon shaped table allowed the 4 of us to be seated facing a floor to ceiling window over looking the water. Even the rain dancing on the river could not spoil the view. Prime rib , lazy mans lobster, and baked stuffed lobster was the treat of the day. This will be a dinner to remember for some time the birthday girls also enjoyed the wine with out complaint. The motors started @ 7 am for the 145 mile trip home a bright sunny day but then it always seems to be the best day when traveling home. As we bid farewell to Maine for this year we travel with good memories and look forward to our August adventures.

Last Day

Well the day was off to an early start, we rolled out of bed @ 5 AM and set out for breakfast and then to Portland Head Light House to watch the arrival of the USCG Eagle ETA 8AM.
We enjoyed a good breakfast @ IHOP in South Portland on the Maine Mall Road. From there to to Cape Elisabeth on RTE 77 and Shore Road so the GPS claimed. A great day sunshine good visibility but poor timing the Eagle's entry into Portland was more like 10:15. This evening we will take the girls to dinner to celebrate there birthday on the pier in Kennebunkport.

Day Five

It is truly amazing how quickly the vacation days rumble by day 5 already. As most vacation days go it has to lend some time to shopping Tuesday was spent winding in and out of the small shops along Dock Street in Kennebunkport an endless collection of things and stuff this 1 mile section on town supports an estimated 50 shops galleries and food out lets. The girls had a great time wandering about while Ray found a bench in the shade to keep out of the sun, not sure why any one wants to keep out of the sun this year it is hard to find most days. After enjoying a light lunch @ the dock side we ventured out to explore more of the Maine coast. A drive out past the Bush home allowed us a chance to get some great photos on the coast following Ocean Drive. till meeting Rte. 9 to Pier Road and out to the pier.

Day Three

As the weather forecast was questionable we opted to make the two hour run to New Harbor and Shaw's Seafood for lunch. Using 295 for the first time we found the run to be very nice good road very little construction a plus on any side trip. It felt good to be back in the Mid Coast region again. There is just a true down east feeling getting north of Portland. The view from the pier @ New Harbor had a misty quality in the mid day. We arrived just as the boat docked from the island some of the passengers looked a little green disembarking from boat. One couple said the visibility off shore was about 1000 feet I thought that was pretty good for the Maine coast. The food was up to its usual standard with the shore dinner of lobster & steamers @ under $20.00. It fill out hunger and did not empty the wallet. The return trip to Kennebunkport found the rte. 1 traffic throught Wissacasset busy and the line @ Big Reds for ice cream was out onto the bridge. A short stop at Big All's and them off to Wal-mart @ exit 32 off the pike gave us a full day of exploring in Maine.

Vacation at last

In what had to be the worst travel day this summer we slipped out of the drive @ 5:45 AM on Thursday for a week in southern Maine. After meeting friends we chose to have breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Wrentham and wait out the rain. Breakfast was good not as terrific as I was told but it filled the void and got us off to a good start. On the road @ 8:30 the 55MPH on 495 allowed us to catch up with the rain as we approached 95 split into New Hampshire. Bogging down to 40 MPH in poor visibility it seemed like a long trip. With perseverance we did find Yankeeland Campground in Kennebunkport. Our best option was to site tight till mid after noon before attempting to set up. We will try and keep you posted.

Summer Fun

Well it has been a while since the last update but we have been enjoying time in the sun on Cape Cod. The chapter camp out at Scusset Beach went well, sunshine, temp in the 80's proved to be a delight. Queen Ann's Catering arrived around one pm on Saturday and set to the task of feeding the 100 hungry campers. A menu of Pork ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and corn on the cob server hot and on time added to the pleasures of the day. The members also had the chance to watch the fire works on the Cape forn the comfort of there beach chairs along the east end of the cannel.

Weekend Adventures

Yes ! another weekend approaches for the working RV er what better plan than 48 hours away from the office. Sure we hear plenty about the full timers come on gang lets hear from the weekenders. You know the ones that lock the door and head out on Friday afternoon for the favorite camping spot. Lets see were you go and give us some new placed to visit also.

Well the weekend went well but it is time to get ready for return to work on Monday. We packed the rig and reluctantly headed home the Holland couple boarded the train for Boston for some exploring we wish them well.

Wishing all a very Happy Fourth of July. The fireworks over Middleboro were outstanding last night and we are hoping the weather will hold for our venture Plymouth tonight. The Fire works start over the water front @ 9PM.
We have had the pleasure of meeting a young couple from Holland this week here enjoying the Boston KOA just another benefit to the weekend RVing adventure. This couple arrived in New York on Sunday and picked up a rented class "C" motor home to explore the new England area.
They plan on seeing Boston then off to Maine, then visit the white mountains, green mountains,
on to the Niagra falls, then back to New York for the trip home. An ambitious plan with there 11 month old, we wish them the best of safe travel.
Reports are the FMCA weekend is going well at Scusset State Beach on Old Cape Cod.

Holiday weekend

Well the sun has finally broken through the clouds here in eastern Mass, June provided us with 28 days of clouds and rain we all hope the month of July will improve bring on the summer.

We have settled into the Boston KOA, Middleboro for the 4 of July events in the Plymouth area looking forward to fire works over Plymouth water front Saturday starting at 9:00 PM.

We did learn the the parade a traditions has been canceled due to lack of funding, the economy continues to impact all of us at home and on the road.
